Associations as Communities of Interest: My Wishlist for the ASAE Conference
I am going to miss out on ASAE this year due to an injury – but I can still dream about being there!
Being that I am a passionate digital strategist and have a deep and abiding love for all things ‘Association’, I am intrigued how Associations use technology and social tools to engage member communities and foster relationships to achieve their mission. I believe that because the foundation of every Association is a community of interest, they are built for using social tools to engage, nurture, grow and ultimately support their mission.
There is a lot of good education on the agenda this year about just this.
My ASAE wishlist begins with the following three sessions that I wish I could attend:
Conversation that Matters: How Online Community is Changing the Way We Work
Presenter: Lindy Dreyer of SocialFish
We all know the folks over at SocialFish have it going on, so this is a not-to-miss session. The core of this session seems to be focused on organizations developing internal ‘social skills’ and social culture. This is critical to success in today’s community-oriented, social landscape. I am intrigued to learn from Lindy about their perpsectives on how to accomplish just that.
The Path to Becoming a more Social Organization
Presenters:
Valerie Fries-Wade MM, CAE; Robb Lee; Greg Melia CAE; Nathan Victoria
Another similar session to the one above- addressing the cultural aspects of becoming a more social organization. It would be interesting to hear the perspectives of these individual presenters as well.
Increase Member Engagement through Technology
Presenters:
Heather McNair, Laura Woodruff MA
The session abstract describes how these two women have tried many technology approaches for member engagement including: trigger messaging campaigns, QR codes, an online community, gaming, and a reconfigured website with interactive tools. It would be great to hear stories ‘from the trenches’ and learn from their successes and failures.
Look for part two of my wishlist in the coming days…
